Adulterated tea seized in Tirupur
In a crackdown, officials of the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) seized a huge haul of 230 kilograms of adulterated tea powder from bakeries and manufacturers in Tirupur district.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of FSSAI staff intercepted U Saravanan, 38, from Peelamedu in Coimbatore during a vehicle check at Velampalayam. “He was found in possession of 61 kilograms of adulterated tea packs in his two-wheeler meant to be supplied in tea shops and bakeries in Tirupur,” an FSSAI official said.
Saravanan, who manufactured the adulterated tea powder at his residence, was one of the major suppliers of adulterated tea packs in Tirupur. Following his confession that two others were buying the adulterated tea powder in bulk for use, the FSSAI officials carried out a raid at a bakery in Kethanur main road. The officials then seized 10 kilograms of adulterated tea powder. Also, 150 kilograms of adulterated tea packs were brought by N Murali Krishnan, 46, from Pollachi were seized during a vehicle check.
