A review by the audit wing of Tangedco’s Tirunelveli zone revealed that public fund was swindled, based on the correspondence, dated November 26, 2016, of the superintending engineer of Thoothukudi, who wrote in receipt of power not generated, he claimed.
Stalin said that preliminary review showed accounts were fudged to the tune of 1.35 lakh units of wind energy in November and December, 2016 and irregularities to the tune of Rs 9.17 crore. “How did the company get Rs 9 crore without generating wind power?” he asked. Charging that the distribution director at Tangedco headquarters and the board chairman were aware of the irregularities, but did not initiate any action, he said that Thangamani impeded the probe. He sought to know on whose insistence did the SE write in receipt of power not generated. He also demanded vigilance and anti-corruption probe into it.
DMK slams ‘alms’ remark
DMK treasurer Duraimurugan slammed Information Minister Kadambur Raju for his remark that the Marina space allotted and State honours accorded to late former CM M Karunanidhi were nothing but ‘alms’ offered by the AIADMK.
“We went to the court and won the space. Also, State honours are accorded by the Centre. Wasn’t the Minister aware of it,” he asked.
