State govt urged to undertake research on Lemuria-Tamil link

“Lemuria was a piece of land connecting Africa and Australia with India and the DNAs of ancient men can be traced only in these three parts of the world. There is a theory that Lemuria, also called as Kumari continent, had a flourishing civilisation well before the Indus Valley Civilization and to find out the hidden facts, the state government should allot funds for research,” told Ravichandra to DT Next. 

A three-day conference on the significance of Lemuria continent commenced in Kanniyakumari on Friday with Tamil researchers from various parts of the State taking part in it. Research papers on Lemuria continent were submitted in the conference. 

Justice Jothimani, former Supreme Court judge, one of the key speakers in the conference, said the conference is the first step towards establishing that Tamil had originated from Lemuria continent. “More work needs to be done to establish concrete proof about the existence of a civilisation in Lemuria and the origination of Tamil language for which Tamil researchers across the globe should unite,” said Jothimani.

K Pandiarajan, Minister for Tamil as official language and Tamil culture, is set to participate in the conference and would discuss about the possibility of the government’s role in research on Lemuria. The researchers are set to meet the minister and would urge him to undertake research on the Lemuria continent.  “We (researchers) plan to meet the minister and stress the need for research on Lemuria continent. There is definitely a link between Lemuria and Poombuhar civilisation and the government has the responsibility to establish it,” said Ravichandra. 

He added that people from earlier civilisations largely relied on the sea for communication and used marine animals as guide. “Turtles played a big role in guiding seafarers in trade in ancient Tamil Nadu,” he said.
