Nirmala Devi was accused of approaching few girl students seeking sexual favours for officials of Madurai Kamaraj University over cell phone.

The incident occurred during April this year and she was arrested by Aruppukkottai town police based on a complaint lodged by the college administration. After the case was transferred to CB-CID for further investigation, V Murugan, another assistant professor and S Karuppasamy, former research scholar of MKU were arrested.

Charge sheets filed by the CB-CID against the trio were handed over to them. When these three accused were produced before the Virudhunagar Judicial Magistrate Thilageswari on September 19, the Judicial Magistrate ordered the case to go under trial in Srivilliputhur Principal District Sessions Court Judge Muthu Saratha, on September 24. Meanwhile, Nirmala Devi had sought permission from the Judge to see her children and she might approach her lawyer in this regard. When bail petitions filed individually by these three accused came up for hearing before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Monday, Justice GK Ilanthirayan adjourned the case to final hearing on September 28.
