According to police, motorists and pedestrians, who were passing through the road from Sathuvachari to Viruthampattus potted the body of the youth and informed the police. Immediately, the Viruthampattu police arrived at the spot and recovered blood stained banana fronds, which were used to bludgeon the man to death, blood stained bushes and empty liquor bottles.

A mobile phone was also found in the shirt pocket of the victim, who had two names, Saranya and Saravanan tattooed on his right hand. When cops checked the phone, it did not have a SIM card.

Since the body was found in between the limits of Sathuvachari and Viruthampattu police stations, cops were in confusion as to who should register a case.

Following this, Revenue Department officials came to the spot on the request of the police department. Officials after inspecting and measuring the area declared that the body was within the Viruthampattu police station limit. Subsequently, Viruthampattu police registered a case and sent the body to Vellore GH for post-mortem.

Police suspected that murderers could have smashed the face to prevent investigators from identifying the victim. However, the culprits failed to take away the mobile phone and this helped the cops to trace the identity of the youth.

Investigators contacted the numbers in the youth’s mobile phone and identified him as Pichaiperumal (26) of Saidapet in Vellore. He was a part-time car driver and had several cases against him in Vellore north and Sathuvachari police stations. They have launched a hunt to nab the murderers.
