Southern Railway Mazdoor Union opposes privatisation of railways
The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) in a demonstration held in Tiruchy, on Tuesday, strongly condemned the central government for planning to privatise the railway sector. Speaking to the media, zonal president CA Raja Sridhar pointed out that the privatisation proposed by the central government will cut down the number of railway employees.

He said, “The private players would change the operations of the existing system of railways. In some time, there will be no railway employees working in stations other than the contract labourers.” The SRMU zonal president also demanded a minimum grade pay under seventh pay commission to be increased to Rs 18,000. Raja Sridhar urged the government to implement an old pension scheme by shunning the new pension scheme. “The union would plan for a protest if the government fails to initiate our demands,” he added.
