Auto driver commits suicide as wife returns mangalsutra
Upset over his wife returning the mangalsutra (thali) and refusing to come back home, A 42-year-old auto driver committed suicide by hanging himself in Manapparai on Wednesday.

Sources said, Natarajan (42), an auto driver of Vaitheeswararan Koil Street in Sirkazhi, Nagapattinam, married Rukmani (33) of Puthu Colony near Manapparai, in Tiruchy some time ago. The couple, who has two children, used to have frequent quarrel over various issue. After one such altercation recently, Rukmani deserted Natarajan and went to her parental house in Manaparai.
On Tuesday evening, Natarajan reportedly came to Manapparai and tried to convince Rukmani to come with him to Sirkazhi. However, Rukmani refused to accompany him and she returned the ‘mangalsutra’ to him.
Vexed over this, Natarajan left the spot and consumed liquor on Tuesday night. Later, he parked the auto near a private polytechnic college on Manapparai-Kulithalai road and hung himself to death by wearing the mangalsutra.
On Wednesday, passers-by who noticed the body, informed the Manapparai police, who reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
