According to the officials, a special team of health staff and doctors conducted a thorough inspection at houses across the city. During the checks, the team identified water-stagnation at many houses, along with coconut shells, rubber tyres and empty vessels that are usually the breeding grounds of mosquitoes. All of the above were immediately cleared by the team.
The officials also instructed the schools to spread awareness among the children about dengue and sensitise them on source detection. The officials further instructed school authorities to avoid storing clean water in open containers.
While fogging activities were initiated across the city, the staffs were asked to visit every house to create awareness on dengue. Residents were advised to rush to a Government Hospital in case of high fever.
Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran warned the residents that a fine of Rs 500 will be levied if they fail to cooperate with the civic body’s initiation.
