“There is no need for me to participate in the meeting (MGR Centenary meeting) as I was not invited properly. My availability was not confirmed before fixing the date for the meeting,” said Dhinakaran, while addressing the media at the Chennai Airport.
He said his name was printed on the invitation based on the protocol that he was one of the MLAs in the district where the function was being held, and the government did not have any real intention to invite him. “The state government is a slave government and they are conducting the MGR Centenary meeting just to seek publicity. They do not have any intention to honour MGR,” said Dhinakaran.
He further said the Arunthathiyar community had organised the meeting on the same day and it was fixed much before the date for the MGR Centenary meeting was finalised. “If it was a party meeting, I would have cancelled it, but the meeting was organised by Arunthathiyars who deeply loved late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa”, said Dhinakaran.
He added that teachers and students were forced to attend the centenary meeting and even those who came for the Arunthathiyar conference were diverted to Chennai.
