Activists irked as woman’s body ferried in garbage truck

In yet another ‘inhuman’ act, the body of an old woman carried on a garbage truck that belonged to the Thanjavur Corporation.

After a video showing the body being transported on the garbage truck went viral since Sunday night in Thanjavur. social activists have demanded action against the corporation staff behind the act.

According to sources, morning strollers had seen the old woman lying sick on the platform of a bridge in an arterial area of the town and offered food. As the woman did not consume anything offered to her on Sunday, the walkers checked and found that she was dead.

They informed the ‘108’ ambulance service and Thanjavur West Police regarding the death. However, till afternoon, no help arrived.

Around 3 pm, police reached at the spot and reportedly asked the municipal staff to come with a vehicle to clear the body from the spot.

Shockingly, the sanitary staff of the Corporation came with a garbage truck and loaded the woman’s body onto it. The body was taken to the mortuary at the Thanjavur medical college hospital as instructed by the cops.

Meanwhile, a video showing the woman’s body being loaded onto the garbage truck went viral on social media. 

Infuriated by the municipal workers’ act, social activists demanded action against the police and the civic staff.
