Interacting with the media persons, Thirumurugan, who was released on bail from the Vellore central prison, said that the government even opposed actions which were constitutionally right. While it arrested those who voiced people related issues, it did not arrest Hindutva and RSS elements which were instigating violence in the state, he added.

Charging that the AIADMK government was siding with the people, he said it had arrested those who spoke against.

Referring to the recent announcement on the hydrocarbon scheme, he said that it was against the wishes of the people. “We see this as an anti-people move” he added. He wondered why officials and ministers refused to meet those agitating when even the British had done so during the pre-independence era.

Insisting that democratic rights were being trampled upon in Tamil Nadu, he said instead of doing what was good for the people, the government was stifling the right to opinion.

Taking a dig at Modi, the May 17 movement coordinator said that though the PM had recently written about Gandhi, he did not follow the principles of the Father of the Nation. The BJP has no right to talk about Gandhi, he added.

Stating that May17 movement was a democratic organisation, he said it did not believe in violence adding that “we do not hide like the RSS.”
