‘Govt revisiting policies on foreign faculty’

Union Minister for HRD, Prakash Javadekar said that the Union government was revisiting its policies to facilitate the services of foreign faculty members in Indian institutions aimed at moving from application oriented-culture to an innovation-culture.

He urged students to make use of all the facilities and come up with innovative solutions to real-life problems for sustainable development.

Inaugurating a Rs 190-crore Centre of Dynamic Excellence in Manufacturing, in partnership with Siemens Industry Software, on Friday, he underlined centres like these were the need of the hour for promoting experiential learning which could provide solutions to real-life problems.

Congratulating the director on the inauguration of the first Centre of Dynamic Excellence in Manufacturing in the country, he wished that the NIT-Tiruchy-Siemens venture would become a model for industry-institute interactions that his ministry was focusing through Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. The event was crowned by the BHEL, Tiruchy, handing over a consultancy project to the Centre for a sum of Rs 1.2 crore to develop an electric bus.

Launching the Hardware Hackathon in NIT-Tiruchy, he highlighted the prototyping and product development was a positive outcome of the Smart India Hackathon, which has fostered innovation among youngsters and has resulted in real solutions to the societal problems. 

Dr Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT, Tiruchy said that she would ensure that NIT-T was placed among the top 8-10 technical institutions in the country and among the top 500 universities in the world in next 5 years.

Matthew Thomas, Country Sales Leader of Siemens Software also spoke on the occasion, said, “In the future, industry 4.0 with emphasis on ideation and digitalisation would be launched. He announced his pleasure in offering Rs 12 lakh for designing and evaluating robotics for the Centre of Excellence.”
