“It is shocking to see Governor’s statement that vice-chancellors in the State were appointed by receiving money. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, should order immediate investigation into the claims of Governor,” said VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan at Chennai Airport, on Sunday.

Governor, in a conference, on Saturday, claimed that Vice-Chancellors in the past were appointed by receiving money. Governor’s allegation created controversy in the State and opposition leaders started criticising the government.

Thirumavalavan also said that Governor himself accepts that earlier appointments were made by receiving money and so an inquiry commission should be setup to probe the scam.

MDMK leader Vaiko demanded the Governor to take action. “The Governor cannot make wild claims. He must have said that based on the information he would have received, he should take action”, said Vaiko.

Congress State President, Thirunavukkarasar, said that there were many complaints in the past that the appointments of vice-chancellors were made after receiving money. The appointments are made by the Governor and so the present Governor should initiate action against the persons involved in the scam, said Thirunavukkarasar.

However, DMK senior leader Duraimurugan, said that there is something fishy in Governor’s statement. “From my political experience I find that there is something wrong in the statement. Why does he have to bring up the issue when the elections are fast approaching. I have a strong suspicion that something unusual is going to happen in the coming days,” said Duraimurugan.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, defended the Governor. “Governor will will submit the proofs when it is time.”
