300 Tamil Nadu schools to soon have high speed internet connectivity

Tamil Nadu Government has decided to provide high speed broadband connectivity in 300 government schools in Chennai and Coimbatore.

The School Education Department has tied up with ACT Fibernet company on Tuesday in this regard. With this initiative, Tamil Nadu government and ACT Fibernet aims to meet the emerging need for digital education, help students to empower themselves by acquiring, absorbing and retaining the benefits of digital learning.

School Education Minister KA Sengottiyan said that ACT Fibernet will be investing over Rs 3 crores to extend its high-speed broadband connectivity to government schools in Chennai and Coimbatore. “This will certainly benefit our students, help them enhance their knowledge and open new opportunities,” he added.

Stating that digital literacy is the need of the hour and is one of the most potent tool for empowerment of any society, the minister said “Students will transform and enable to accomplish the government’s vision of making India a complete digitally powered nation.”

As per the plan, 240 government schools in greater Chennai and 60 schools in Coimbatore will be having high speed internet connection. Accordingly, the students from high and higher secondary government schools will be accessing high-end internet connection shortly.

A senior official from Education department also said that the government is also taking steps in establishing hi-tech labs in about 3,000 secondary and 2,900 higher secondary schools in the State. “The process of establishment is at advanced stage,” he said.
