“Aavin has introduced milk cake, badusha, special nut halwa, badam halwa and cashew cake as part of Deepavali celebrations. It is also planning to open sweet stalls in large cities across the State, with the one in Chennai expected to be opened soon,” said Dairy Minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji during a press meet in Chennai.

Elaborating on its overseas plans, Bhalaji said, “Aavin had signed a pact with the previous Malaysian government to market its products but due to a change in the regime, there has been a delay. However, all steps are now being taken to expand Aavin in Malaysia following Singapore and Hong Kong.”

He further said the procurement of milk has increased drastically when compared to the previous years. “Aavin now procures 36 lakh litres of milk per day. In 2017, the average procurement was around 23 lakh litres of milk per day. The increase in procurement is an indication of the trust farmers have on Aavin due to timely payments and no arrears,” said Bhalaji.

When asked whether the production of sweets would be increased based on the festive demand, Bhalaji replied that Aavin has the required stock of raw materials such as ghee and milk. If there is demand for it. extra sweets will be prepared, he added.

To a question on whether Aavin has plans to sell the newly launched sweets in private shops, Bhalaji replied that at present the sweets will be sold only through Aavin outlets and recognised wholesale dealers.
