Police are investigating whether the rape and murder of the woman was due to previous enmity or a fall out of a relationship.

Police said that Selvi (30), who lost her husband a few years ago, was living with her eight-year-old son at Guruvarajapet near Arakkonam. She was working in a private company nearby to support the family.

Meanwhile, on Sunday night, Selvi’s son saw his mother lying motionless without clothes and screamed in panic. On hearing his cries, neighbours, who rushed into the house, were shocked to find Selvi lying dead. They immediately alerted the Arak-konam police who rushed to the spot recovered the body and sent it to Arakkonam GH for post-mortem. Cops have registered a case and have commenced in-vestigation.

Police suspect that the assailants must have first tried to rape Selvi, but and when she attempted to resist and escape, they should have overpowered and raped as her body was found without clothes.

Later, they must have strangled her to death. Police are probing to find out whether it was a premeditated murder or Selvi was killed over relationship issues. Investiga-tion is continuing to identify and arrest the killers.
