Addressing mediapersons, senior Congress leader and Secretary in -charge of Tamil Nadu Sanjay Dutt made it clear that his party will not snap ties with the DMK. “Both the Congress and the DMK will discuss and take a decision on the alliance with Kamal’s party,” he added.

Claiming that the ties with the DMK is still strong, the Congress leader said the alliance would win in all 39 constituencies in the upcoming general elections.

It may be recalled that actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan met All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi at New Delhi in June and discussed the political situation in Tamil Nadu. Since then, there has been a speculation that the actor had evinced interest in joining the Congress to face the Parliamentary elections to be held next year.

However, the Makkal Needhi Maiam founder recently stated that it was too early to comment on having an alliance with Congress.

Meanwhile, the Opposition DMK has decided to extend its support to trade unions, which will organise a State-wide hunger strike today in protest against the Centre over various issues including hike in fuel prices.

“Following request from the trade union representatives, our party will support the protest”, DMK president M K Stalin said. He said his party would stand for genuine demands of the traders.
