Stalin wants Centre to clarify on visits of Lankan leaders
Expressing apprehension over former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa becoming the island nation’s Prime Minister, DMK president MK Stalin on Saturday sought a clarification from the Centre on the recent Indian visit of Sri Lankan politicians and allegations against RAW that it had plotted to kill its president Maithripala Sirisena and the subsequent rejoinder denying the same.

Remarking that Rajapaksa’s ‘unlawful’ assumption of office of PM without majority has triggered panic and fear among Tamils not only in Eelam but also in Tamil Nadu, Stalin drew Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attention to media analysis linking the sudden political change in Colombo to the ongoing trade war between India and China.
Recalling the hostile statements made during Rajapaksa’s recent visit to New Delhi and reports about alleged RAW plot to assassinate Sirisena, Stalin said the Tamils were shocked by Rajapaksa becoming Prime Minister in the backdrop of Lankan leaders making India centric visits and allegations.
Adding that he was duty bound to draw the PM’s attention to challenges such political situations in Colombo could pose to India in future, the DMK president said the union external affairs ministry of the Modi-led Centre should clarify on the recent visit of Lankan leaders to the country and allegations made against RAW.
Opining that the mystery-ridden overnight political change in Colombo has posed a great threat to Eelam Tamils whose life and livelihood has already been jeopardised, Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition said the act of Sirisena who had administered oath of office to Rajapaksa has drawn strong criticism internationally.
Tamils hurt, says Vaiko
Meanwhile, MDMK leader, Vaiko said that the newly appointed Sri Lankan Prime Minister Rajapaksa, is a known war criminal and his appointment is a spear struck in the heart of Tamil people.
“Right from children to senior citizens, more than 1.5 lakh Tamils in Sri Lanka were killed by Rajapaksa regime. Next to Hitler’s Nazi rule which killed lakhs of people during the World War-II, Rajapaksa killed large number of pregnant women and his men raped Tamil women in large numbers,” said Vaiko, in a statement.
Vaiko, however, suspected that Indian government had a hand in Rajapaksa’s appointment as PM. “Rajapaksa came to India and stayed for three days to discuss with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His visit and discussion with Modi creates sufficient doubts,” said Vaiko.
He also accused Modi of favouring Sri Lankan government from the beginning by not favouring human rights investigation in Sri Lanka to investigate the war crimes.
