Based on information by country boat fishermen of the area on the menace of twin trawling by the mechanised boats, which destroys small fish, officials of various departments on Saturday went on a patrol. As the mechanised boat allotted to the Adiramapattinam Marine Police station was not operational, the officials reportedly rented a boat and ventured into the sea.Officials, including M Chinna Kuppan, Assistant Director of Fisheries Department, A Rajasekar, SI of Adirampattinam Marine Police station and Fisheries overseer, who were part of the patrol, spotted the two mechanised boats engaged in twin trawling in the shallow waters near the Gandhi Nagar fishing hamlet.Approaching the boats, they noted their numbers and ascertained that they were registered in the name of S Rajendran of Sethubavachathiram. Following this, the officials seized the boats. The fisheries officials have been campaigning against twin trawling across the state as it destroys marine wealth.
