The deceased was identified as S Vignesh of Mettukulam, who was released from the prison last week. His father Senthilkumar is a mason.
Police said that Vignesh was arrested in May for allegedly murdering his neighbour Ganesh (22) as the latter had been allegedly harassing his girlfriend.
Unable to put up with the harassment, Vignesh’s girlfriend complained about Ganesh to him. To teach him a lesson, Vignesh stabbed Ganesh while they were travelling on a motorbike near Koyambedu, which made the latter lose control and ram the bike against a median. He then walked away from the spot, leaving Ganesh bleed to death. Though it was initially registered as an accident, the autopsy report confirmed that it was a murder. Following this, the Koyambedu police registered a case, arrested Vignesh and sent him to an observation home.
Meanwhile, Ganesh’s brother Prakash waited for Vignesh to be released on bail. After coming out from jail, Vingesh threatened to murder Prakash as well. On Thursday night, Prakash and his friends tracked Vignesh and hacked him to death.
While Vignesh was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, he succumbed to injuries on Saturday night. The Koyambedu police arrested Prakash, Mohan (25) and Ajith (23) of the same locality and Arokkiyam (22) of Maduravoyal and Sarathy (23) of Tiruverkadu. A hunt has been launched for five more suspects in connection with the murder.
