“Stephan had claimed compensation in connection with at least 500 cases. We don’t know if there are any fake FIRs in those claims. We are verifying the records,” a CB-CID source said.
Stephan has been working as a clerk for a senior advocate in the Madras High Court. Police also noted that courts were facing problem of multiple claims by accident victims. In a recent scrutiny, the authorities have found at least 355 cases of multiple claims for accident compensation.
CB-CID sleuths, who had arrested another person named Mohan along with Stephan, are on the search for more suspects in the case.
