Man killed over broken drum stick near Arakkonam, 3 held

Police arrested three persons on Tuesday after they allegedly killed a 30-year-old man over a fight involving a broken drum stick.

Sources said Saravanan (12), son of Ravi, accidentally broke the stick belonging to country drummer Kutty (45), while playing near the latter’s house in Guruvarajapet near Arakkonam. An enraged Kutty accompanied by his friends then thrashed Saravanan, who subsequently complained to his family members.

A verbal altercation broke out between them and Kutty after they demanded an apology from him. The argument soon escalated, following which Kutty and his relatives Govindaraj and Ayyappan assaulted four members of Saravanan’s family, including Balraj (30), with iron rods.

The injured personswere rushed to the Arakkonam Government Hospitalby locals.

They were referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai, where Balraj succumbed to his injuries on Monday night.

Following this, Arakkonam taluk police registered a murder case against the three persons andarrested them. They were remanded in custody by an Arakkonam court on Tuesday. Further investigations are under way.
