‘Give housing project details of repatriates’
The Madras High Court has directed the Commissioner of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils, Government of Tamil Nadu, to furnish the details of the places identified for construction of houses in particular, 1,000 houses decided to be allocated to Indian-origin repatriates.

The division bench comprising Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad gave the above direction on a plea seeking to provide houses for Sri Lankan Tamil repatriates in Nilgiris, said a copy of the Repatriates Rehabilitation Schemes Analysis Report-1997 indicates that house sites have been given to Sri Lankan repatriates and loan for constructionof houses.
The bench in its order also recorded the GO issued by the Public (Rehabilitaiton-3) Department dated July 23, 2018, wherein it is stated that Rural Development and Panchayat Department has accorded funds for financial year 2018-19, for construction of houses for all Indian-origin repatriates under the scheme of Pasumai Veedu Thittam and that the said Government Order also reads that working process and expenditures would be carried out by the department of Rural Development.
Also, on noting that the Nilgiris Collector in his counter has stated that the process is pending consideration with the Government and there are no lands available in Nilgiris district for allocation, the bench directed the collector to offer reasons on the aspect on non-availability of lands, posted the case for further hearing to November 9.
