Boy dies in cracker blast, 2 injured, 60-year-old dead in Tiruchy

A Class 7 boy died and two others suffered injuries while firing a locally made cracker bombs, which indisputably produces a high decibel noise compared to branded crackers.

According to police, K Manivel, son of Karuppannan and Santhalakshmi from Vadukapatty near Senthamangalam in Namakkal district was celebrating Deepavali, on Tuesday, along with his friends Surya and Vasanth, when the mishap happened.


According to police, Manivel was checking a bomb, which did not blast for a long time, while the mishap occurred. Unfortunately, it then went off and all the three boys suffered injuries.


While Manivel succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital, the two other boys are undergoing treatment at a private hospital, in Salem district. The Senthamangalam police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.


Man charred to death while sleeping

In a shocking incident, a 68-year-old man, who was sleeping under the influence of alcohol was charred to death reportedly after a fire cracker fell on the cot here, on Tuesday.


According to police, Murugesan (68) of Bharathidasan street in Manachanallur was running an eatery in the locality. On Tuesday night, Murugesan along had consumed alcohol and was sleeping on a cot in front of his house. It is said that while sleeping, a fire cracker accidentally fell on the nylon bed, on which Murugesan was sleeping and the fire spread.


On seeing this, the neighbours alerted the family members and put off the fire. Soon, they rushed him to the Srirangam GH where he was declared brought dead.
