In a serial burglary, miscreants decamped with 25 sovereigns and two kilo grams of silver articles from two houses in Elanga Nagar area, in Kumbakonam.

According to sources, Kalayarasi (53), wife of Sivakumar of Elanga Nagar, in Kumbakonam has been working as headmistress in Pullaboothangudi government higher secondary school. Kalayarasi had locked the house and was residing along with her relatives at Mayiladuthurai. She used to visit her house twice a month.


The neighbours noticed that the lock of the doors of Kalayarasi’s house was broken and the doors remained opened. Following information, Kalayarasi rushed to her house and found 15 sovereigns and two kgs of silver articles stolen from the cupboard.


Based on complaint the Kumbakonam West police on Wednesday registered a case and investigations are on.


In another case Laila Banu, wife of Syed Anwar who has been working abroad, visited her relatives house, in Tiruchy during the Deepavali holidays.


On Tuesday, the tenants residing at the first floor informed Laila that the doors were found broken. When she rushed to her house, 10 sovereigns, Rs 20,000 cash were found missing. The Kumbakonam West police registered a case.
