Though the former MLA did not drop the names of actor Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, who has floated the Makkal Needhi Maiam, directly, he hinted that the left parties were not willing to ally with new parties that have been formed in Tamil Nadu.

The remark from the Marxist leader comes even as Kamal Haasan has announced that his party Makkal Needhi Maiam was ready for the bypolls to 20 vacant seats in Tamil Nadu.

Condemning the State police for not preventing crime against women, Balakrishnan recalled recent crimes against women, including the murder of a woman at the Marina Beach and the beheading of a 14-year-old girl in Salem.

“Police action against the offenders was not encouraging, but now cases are being registered against children for bursting crackers. It is high time that the State government takes effort to prevent increasing crime against women in the society,” Balakrishnan said.
