According to Inspector General of Registration J Kumaragurubaran, the department has already started installing the systems. “The token display systems were installed and made functional in 12 sub-registrar offices in the State on Friday,” he said.

While the offices in Chennai zone would have the systems before November 16, the department has fixed December 31 as the deadline to install the systems at all the 575 sub-registrar offices in the State, Kumaragurubaran said.

The token display system, like the ones in banks, would announce the token numbers, enabling the applicants to wait without being anxious. “This system will help in avoiding unwanted tensions,” another official said.

It may be noted that the department had recently introduced online registration process Star 2.0 to ensure quick and transparent registration process. Under the new system, each sub-registrar office would issue only 100 tokens per day, which the applicants should book online. In offices with two sub-registrars, 200 tokens are being issued.

Meanwhile, the Registration Department also commenced installing dual display screens in the sub-registrar offices. “The dual display screenhas been installed in Chennai South Joint 2 sub-registrar office in Saidapet,” Kumaragurubaran said.

Dual display screens, which would help in transparent document registration under Star 2.0, would be extended to all the sub-registrar offices, the official said.
