Southern Railway sees 51 per cent rise in revenue this Deepavali

Southern Railway said on Monday that it witnessed a 51 per cent rise in revenue totalling 2.72 crore during the Diwali festive season this year as against Rs 1.80 crore last year.

Twenty Suvidhas and 16 special fare special trains were run from Chennai to various parts of Tamil Nadu and alsoto Howrah, a press release from the Southern Railwaysaid here.


The special trains saw 100 per cent occupancy by carrying 2.70 lakh passengers as against 2.21 lakh passengers last year, the release said. The Southern Railway operates the special trains for festive seasons like Diwali and Pongal to clear extra rush of passengers.


The release further added that pattern of train services on Chennai -Arakkonam section would be changed on November 13 and 14 owing to line block.


Train no 12657 Chennai Central- KSR Bengaluru Mail, train no 12511 Gorakhpur-Thiruvananthapuram Raptisagar Express and train no 11028 Chennai Central-Mumbai CST Mail would be regulated en route on November 13.


Train no 22649 Chennai Central-Erode Yercaud, train no 12657 Chennai Central- KSR Bengaluru Mail, train no 22645 Indore- Thiruvananthapuram Ahilyanagari Express, train no 11028 Chennai Central-Mumbai CST Mail and train no 11027 Mumbai CST-Chennai Central Mail would be regulated en route on November 14.
