The decision to allow free viewing was made based on a Government Order (GO), which mandates the archaeological department to allow people without charging any fee.

An internal circular has been issued by the Archaeology Department in this regard.

The Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal in Madurai, Ramalinga Vilasam Palace in Ramanathapuram, Danish Fort in Tharangambadi, heritage symbols in the palace in Thangavur, Manora memorial at Sarabendirarajanpattinam and Rajarajan museum at Thanjavur are the six heritage sites chosen by the department for free entry of people. “World Heritage Week is celebrated from November 19, and workers at the museum have been instructed to place boards announcing that no charge would be collected,” said an official.
