“Needhidevan Mayakam was removed from the syllabus for UG students and was replaced by Rajaraja Cholan, the work of cinema dialogue writer Ramanathan. The decision to change the syllabus was announced on November 9,” Vaiko said, in a statement.
Stating that the reason given by the University for its decision was weird, Vaiko said: “The explanation that there are no guides available for Needhidevan Mayakam and that students had to spend considerable amount of money for getting the guide is absurd and cannot be accepted. It is the duty of the University to arrange for the guide.”
“The play lays stresses on self-respect. Like Anna’s other works, Needidevan Mayakam was written with simple words to convey a powerful message and does not need any guide,” Vaiko said.
The MDMK leader claimed that the BJP and sangh outfits were behind the incident. “In the last 4 years, RSS, Sangh Parivar and other fundamental forces have intruded into various educational institutions. The ruling party which has ‘Anna’ in its name is silent on the issue as it is just a puppet in the hands of the Central government,” Vaiko alleged.
