Inaugurating a year-long stress reduction programme for police personnel and their families, Vanitha said that the best way to avoid stress, especially for women personnel, was to keep away from cellphones.

The DIG advised the personnel spend as much time with their families during holidays. She further said that once a person joins the police force, people and the community become his/her family. Hence the emphasis should be on duty and not rights.

Vanitha exhorted the police personnel to consider their work as a service.

According to her, if police personnel refrain from drinking and smoking, they would earn the respect if their family members and their words would also carry weight. The programme would be conducted for 40 police personnel on Fridays and Saturday and for their families on Sundays, she said.

Vellore SP (in-charge) MR Sibi Chakravarthy was also present on the occasion.
