The man, suspected to be a mentally-challenged person, also bit a person, who came to lodge a complaint at the Virudampattu police station near Katpadi.
Sources said that the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, reportedly pelted stones on several passers-by near the Odai Pillayar Temple on Vellore-Chittoor highway. Panicked locals overpowered the man caught and tied him up.
On information from residents, Virudampattu police rushed to the spot and brought the man to the station.
During inquiry, police struggled to question him and gather details about the man as he conversed only in Hindi, which the police could not understand.
Shockingly, the man’s bizarre act continued even in the police station as he suddenly pounced on a person, who came to file a complaint, and bit him hard on his arm.
On hearing the complainant’s screams, police rescued the victim and overpowered the north Indian.
When reports last came in Virudampattu police were consulting their superiors to send the apprehended youth to a mental facility for treatment.
