Reacting to the public outrage and attack on Textile Minister OS Manian's convoy, Minister RB Udhaya Kumar said that people are being provoked into protesting.

"In line with the public's opinion to intensify the relief measures after the onslaught of cyclone Gaja, the government has taken up steps to keep the public safe and secure. It has also taken more people under protection to prevent further loss of lives due to the cyclone," he said.

He further added, "Criticisms at the time of disasters should be avoided. Officers involved in the disaster relief would be demotivated listening to such comments. Baseless rumors on the relief and rescue operations should be avoided."

He also said, "Rescue operations are being undertaken in the hamlets as well. The government needs time to achieve 100 percent effectiveness. The priority is to remove the fallen electric posts, trees and restore normalcy in transportation."

"Acting against the government would only cause lax in the rescue and relief operations. The claims of officials being held captive by the public are false. The general public is being provoked to protest by some people," he concluded.
