Sources informed that Hari, a goldsmith by profession and a resident of Moongapattu village near Gudiyattam, and his wife Roja (27), were both suffering from fever for some days.

Both were diagnosed with dengue and they were undergoing treatment at a hospital near their house for the last few days.

As their condition worsened, family members rushed both of them to a private hospital in Vellore on Sunday. While Hari succumbed within a few hours of admission, his wife Roja died late on Sunday night.

A pall of gloom descended on Moongapattu village following the death of the couple as the couple have two children, Mathiazhagan (6) and Gopiya (3).

The bodies were sent to the Vellore Government Medical College for post-mortem.

Following the death of the couple due to dengue, fever panic gripped several areas in and around Moongapattu.

In a response action, a team of health officials rushed to the village and carried out necessary measures to prevent spread of the fever and avoid further casualties.

As part of their drive, the health officials also conducted a camp in the village.
