“People in Delta region are suffering after they totally lost their livelihood in the cyclone. They are not satisfied with the rehabilitation works that are being carried out. In fact, Chief Minister should camp there and speed up the activities,” Stalin told reporters at the airport.

The DMK leader said that Palaniswami should also consult with other political leaders in the cyclone affected districts and organise a review meeting with the local authorities to improve the rehabilitation works.

To a question, he pointed out that the DMK has already donated Rs 1 crore for the cyclone affected people. “In addition, party legislators and MPs have also donated their salary,” he said adding that the party also organised to transport Rs 4 crore worth of relief materials for the affected people. Stalin said that if necessity arises, his party would continue to send relief materials and would also go further to help the affected people in rehabilitating them.

Recalling the Chief Minister’s claim that he had demanded the Centre to release Rs 1,500 crore as immediate relief, the DMK president said the Tamil Nadu government should ensure that the relief amount should reach on time.

He said the state should also prevail upon the Union government for sending a central team to the affected areas for accessing the damage caused by the cyclone.
