According to the Forest Department, the elephant aged around 25 years had come out of the forest cover near Thalavadi in search of food. It had ventured into a corn field belonging to Rangaraj of Sujilkarai village.

A post-mortem was performed, and the carcass of the animal was buried in the area. The Forest Department has arrested Rangaraj.Further inquiries are on.
