According to sources, Selvaraj had entered the forest area along with three others identified as Pandi, ‘Poochi’ and Periasamy. They had intended to hunt deer, rabbit and wild boar. All of them belonged to Modathur tribal hamlet. The men carried a country-made gun, owned by Pandi, to hunt animals.
“The four persons had gone into the jungle on Friday night. A quarrel seems to have broken out and Selvaraj was shot by one of them. The three men had then wrapped his body in a cloth and carried it all the way to his house. They then abandoned his body in front of his house and escaped,” sources added.
The Kariakovil police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the three men, who are now on the run.
“The reason for the murder and what exactly transpired between them will be known only after the arrest of the culprits,” said a cop.
