Speaking at the event of Dhaya Foundation, Rajinikanth said that the rights of children have been neglected by both the Union and state governments. He said that not enough attention has been paid to the subject and the funds allocated to improve the lives of children is paltry when compared to Western nations who took the issue seriously. “When we look at how much money they spend to ensure the children’s rights are always protected, it shows us where our country stands on the same issue.”
The actor-turned-politician also said that children are innocent and must be treated with care. He hailed them as the nation’s future and urged that their rights be taken seriously and protected. “I wish to raise the issue of mafias that force children into begging across the country and I really want that to be curbed. Our society, unfortunately, along with law enforcement turns a blind eye to their plight. I urge that those who subject children to such cruelty must be brought to justice.”
Rajinikanth also launched an app dedicated to child safety and spoke of his wife’s unwavering dedication to the cause.
A minute’s silence was observed at the start of the event in memory of the victims of Cyclone Gaja.
