Half yearly exams to be held as per schedule: School education minister
KA Sengottaiyan, school education minister on Wednesday said that the half yearly examinations for school students would be conducted as per the earlier schedule and added that the examinations would neither be cancelled nor postponed in the cyclone Gaja affected districts.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said, “As the examinations are used to assess the progress of the students and to train them appropriately, based on their marks, the examinations cannot be postponed.” It is to be noted that, around 84,000 text books were distributed to the students in the cyclone Gaja affected districts.
Earlier, Sengottaiyan chaired a review meeting of the Gaja relief operations and said, the relief works were in full swing at the taluks of Orathanadu, Pattukkottai and Peravurani, which were affected by Gaja cyclone. As many as 4,476 workers from Tangedco were engaged working to restore electricity in the affected areas. He further added tarpaulin sheets would be distributed to those whose houses were damaged.
R Doraikkannu, the agriculture minister said, “The enumeration of crop damages in the district is being done by the officers from agriculture and horticulture department from various districts.” He also assured based on the enumeration, all the affected farmers would be given compensation.
Udumalai K Radhakrishnan, minister for animal husbandry said, “The feed for cattle and poultry in the Gaja cyclone affected areas has been brought from Hosur. Special veterinary medical camps are being conducted for the cattle in the affected areas.”
