Vaiko loses base in Karur as office-bearers of MDMK resign en masse

“Despite lodging complaints repeatedly with Vaiko against the district in-charge Kabini Chidambaram, who has been acting as a dictator without consulting the office bearers in every activity including appointment of the party office bearer and collecting of party funds. However, the complaints were not taken into account by the General Secretary Vaiko,” said Kalaiarasan, the Aravakurichi Union chairman of the party.

Meanwhile, Chidambaram reportedly informed Vaiko that Kalaiarasan was working against the party interest. Subsequently, Vaiko convened a peace talk between the two on November 24 in Tiruchy. “In the Tiruchy peace talk, Vaiko went on accusing me and those supporting me. It was an open session and Vaiko asked me to adjust with Chidambaram who also lodged complaints against me,” Kalaiarasan said.

“After the meeting, we sent a letter to Vaiko explaining the real situation, but, we received no response from him. Therefore, on Tuesday, we, eight union secretaries and two town secretaries, sent a resignation letter to Vaiko,” he added.

“Instead of holding talks with us, we heard that Vaiko has been arranging for our alternates,” claimed Kalaiarasan who has been with him since the party was launched on May 6, 1994.

With the entire senior team resigning, Vaiko probably would lose his base in Karur district, where he had decided to launch his own party on October 10, 1993 after parting with Kalaignar. It was the Karur cadre who always stood with him all through his journey after the party was formed.
