NIT-T selected as mentor institute by AICTE to guide engineering colleges

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchy (NIT-T) has been granted the status of ‘Mentor’ institute to serve as the hub to guide and disseminate knowledge to the Mentee Institutions for Margdarshan (share and mentor institutions) scheme, an initiative by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) designed to implement the ‘Hub and Spoke’ system.

The purpose of the scheme is to conduct faculty development programmes, three-day national level workshops, guest lectures and other activities for the technical upliftment of the member institutions in terms of teaching learning process. In this regard, the council has sanctioned a grant of Rs 30 lakh under this project for a duration of 3 years.


The mentor institute has identified 14 accredited technical institutions for this programme. As a part of the formal launch, workshop on the ‘Implementation of Margdarshan scheme (AICTE) for Mentee institutions’ was conducted on Friday.


Dr N Sivakumaran, Chief Coordinator and Dr G Saravana Ilango, Co-Coordinator briefed about the Margdarshan scheme and its implementation to the principals, senior professors of the mentee institutions. Dr Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT-T addressed the gathering and mentioned the endeavour to contribute towards the improvement of technical education.


The director added that this scheme will help to motivate the students to come up with innovative ideas and projects and widen the exposure to the prototype development on enhanced educational standards and research aptitude. This also facilitates to enhance the lateral thinking and attitude and to improve the communication skills and self-confidence among the faculties and students. The workshop eased the interaction between the mentee institutions and NIT-T regarding the comprehensive objectives of the programme, project guidelines, expected institutions’ networking outcomes and the feedback on Mentee-Mentor expectations.
