Babri Masjid anniv demo: 400 detained in Kovai

Members of Hindu and Muslim outfits held a string of protests in Coimbatore in view of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary day on Thursday.

Over 400 activists of Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi were detained when they attempted to proceed towards the city to gherao at the Coimbatore international airport to mark their protest against the demolition of the mosque. Tension prevailed when a huge pose of cops blocked the way of the protestors.


Similarly, party members of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a protest at Aathupalam area demanding justice in the demolition of the mosque. A large number of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kalazham(TMMK) members staged a demo near Red Cross office by wearing black shirts.


Similarly, around 100 members of Bharat Sena were removed for attempting to hold a rail roko protest demanding to build the Ram temple. Another 120 members of Bharatiya Hindu Sena(Tamil Nadu) were removed by police as they attempted to barge into the railway station to block train.


Around 50 members of Sakthi Sena staged a protest near Codissia, while around 15 members of Hindu Makkal Katchi-Vivekanandar Makkal Iyakkam held a protest at the same place. Police said the day passed off peacefully without any major law and order problems. A large posse of police was deployed in vital installations, religious institutions and crowded places to avoid any communal tension during protests by the religious organisation.
