Duraimurugan also wanted to know whether the state has any idea of the dam structure or the number of dams coming up in the area. He also said that the state has failed to get a strong Cauvery Water Management Board and blamed the Centre for the current political fiasco. Further, a section of the DMK MLAs was looking forward for a resolution to condole the death of late DMK leader Karunanidhi who died on August 7, but as it was a special session to discuss only Mekedatu, the Assembly is said to condole the late leader during its next session.
CM expresses displeasure over DMKMLA’s unruly behaviour
In his speech, Chief Minister Palaniswami said that as a farmer he knows the significance of Cauvery water and emphasised that he uses the water. Even as the CM was addressing there were some disruptions from the opposition DMK MLA J Anbhazhagan. To this the Chief Minister said, “You are from Chennai and you do not know what Cauvery means,” to this the DMK legislator shot back with disrespectful words. Sensing trouble the speaker P Dhanapal intervened and said that the Chief Minister was magnanimous and wanted to ensure that the objective of the special session is not diverted. Dhanapal also warned the DMK MLA and insisted the legislator maintain decorum inside the Assembly hall. “The action of Karnataka has caused deep anguish and apprehension in Tamil Nadu and I welcome the resolution wholeheartedly,” rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran told reporters after welcoming the resolution in the house.
