The state government would not allow the project, which could affect people and never extend support to such projects against the interest of people.
While talking to reporters after attending a programme at private engineering college in Sevalpatti, the Minister condemned the stand taken by the Union government, which he said was in favour of constructing a reservoir in Mekedatu across river Cauvery. The Centre gave its nod for construction of the reservoir and also for allowing a survey ahead of the construction. All Members of Parliament representing the AIADMK would unanimously raise their voice against the Centre’s nod for the construction in the upcoming winter sessionof Parliament.
Responding to a query, the Minister said the state government would pressurise the Union government to resume cracker manufacturing in Sivakasi and also to safeguard the interests of stakeholders relying on this industry. The cracker manufacturing units in Sivakasi remain shut indefinitely as manufacturers were clueless in making ‘green crackers,’ for which the Supreme Court gave its ruling to produce the same, without any option.
