“Hindu temples are there to meditate. The stay order is unfortunate, and I doubt there is a hidden motive behind the protest”, Ravishankar told reporters. He stressed that his organisation, the Art of Living (AoL) foundation, will conduct the programme in the same venue after getting permission from the court.

The Art of Living foundation had scheduled a meditation programme ‘Unveiling Infinity’ in the Big Temple premises. However, political parties, heritage enthusiasts and pro-Tamil activists opposed the permission granted by the ASI. Meanwhile, N Venkatesh of Kumbakonam approached the Madurai bench of Madras High Court and obtained an interim stay.

As a result, the organisation shifted the event to a wedding hall. Sources said AoL has sought the revoking of the stay order.
