First, Second, Third and Fourth Cross Streets of David Nagar in New Perungalathur are some of the worst affected ones, forcing residents to navigate through a bumpy terrain.
Following a request from the residents, the municipality officials had assured them that they will re-lay the roads but they added that the roads should be levelled before the work starts. Following that, the residents of David Nagar came together and levelled the roads spending money from their pockets.
However, there was no response from the municipality officials even after repeated requests from the residents. They added that the situation has worsened after the recent rain.
The residents also complained that there was no proper minibus facility in their area due to the poor condition of the roads.
Martin Ronald, a resident of David Nagar said, “The municipality is not bothered about us though we took up the responsibility to level the road.”
When DT Next contacted Perungalathur Executive Officer D Gunasekaran, he said they have already prepared an estimate to repair the road and sent it to the concerned officials for approval. “Once the approval is received, the department will start the work. He also added that the work cannot be started till the rain stops,” Gunasekaran said.
