According to a Corporation official, Rs 107.50 crore has been allotted to Chennai to build 34 new Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC), eight Urban Community Health Centres (UCHC) and to renovate 100 new urban primary health centres. “As the central government had released Rs 93.10 crore, majority of the works are completed,” a Corporation official said.
Meanwhile, the civic body has been constructing 4 urban community health centres and 10 urban primary health centres, amid which the works of the UCHCs at Valasaravakkam and Perungudi are nearing completion.
“While continuing the construction work, we had floated tenders for procuring medical equipment for new health centres. But the government is yet to release the final instalment of Rs 14.40 crore. So, we have cancelled the tenders and decided to float re-tender to procure equipment for the UCHCs in Valasaravakkam and Perungudi,” the official added.
The Corporation would carry on building 10 UPHCs and two UCHCs with the funds earmarked for the construction work. “At the same time, we are taking steps to get the remaining funds from NUHM,” the official said. The medical equipment would be procured at the rates prescribed by Tamil Nadu Medical Service Corporation.
