Kausalya seeks action against cops in Tindivanam woman case

In her petition, Kausalya said Santhoshsri (21), a native of Tindivanam, had moved the court seeking divorce over a marital discord. “Arrangements were made for her stay at Chavady Street in Komaralingam after she approached us for assistance. Information regarding the pending divorce petition was also conveyed to Tindivanam and Tambaram police stations,” the activist said.

She said two male cops entered the house on the night of December 13 and dragged away Santhoshsri after assaulting the brothers of late Shankar. The cops did not give proper explanation for their action.

“As the woman is a major, it is her prerogative to stay anywhere of her choice. The police have no business to interfere in her affairs,” Kausalya said, adding the cops left Santhoshsri in the custody of her parents at Marakkanam.

Urging the SP to initiate action against the two cops for trespassing into the house and acting in violation of the law, Kausalya said, “If no action is taken, we will move the court.”

On receiving the complaint, Tirupur SP Kayalvizhi assured that a probe has been ordered and prompt action would be taken against the cops if there is any misuse of power.
