On his return to Chennai from visiting areas affected by Cyclone Gaja, Kamal was asked about the state government’s refusal to present a unified opposition to the reopening of the plant. To this Kamal responded that just as the Chief Minister has been unable to do many things for the state, he has also been unable to take a principled stand on the matter to prevent the reopening of Sterlite.

Earlier in Dindigul,Kamal had said that any industry that does not harm the people and pollute the environment is welcome to operate in the state.

Kamal has also been open in his criticism of the relief efforts following cyclone Gaja. He visited areas near Kodaikanal in his latest round of visits. Kamal was seen taking up the cause of the people who had complained that officials asked bribes to provide them with relief sanctioned to them.

The 64-year-old will now resume his political campaign aimed at getting his party Makkal Needhi Maiam ready for the Lok Sabha elections, while balancing his time with shooting for what could possibly be his last film, Indian 2.
