Speaking to reporters here, Thirumurugan Gandhi said the black shirt rally, which has been scheduled on December 23, would see at least one lakh participants from around 200 like-minded movements taking part.
“Though we were given permission initially, it was withdrawn as the date for the rally neared. Hence, we approached the Court and sought permission. This is the land of Periyar. Every person from the state have benefited by his service. So, it is our duty to venerate him,” Thirumurgan Gandhi said.
“While those talking ill of the social reformer are allowed to do so freely, the people who have adopted Periyar as a role model are being denied permission for holding any programme. We will not let go this issue simply. We will approach the court to hold those who talk against Periyar accountable,” he said.
